How do I connect my iPod to my computer without wiping out my iPod's contents?

My computer recently crashed and rebooted itself, wiping my hard drive clean. After recovering from the devastation, I've begun the slow process of returning it to the way it was before. But part of the problem is I lost my iTunes library. The good news is that my music is still on my iPod, so I haven't actually lost it. But I'm afraid to connect my iPod to my computer now because it might sync itself and I'll lose my music. How can I prevent this from happening?
